The Chairperson of the Civil Engineering Department, College of Engineering, University of Bahrain, Dr. Nuha Jamal Al-Zayani, stressed that civil engineering students’ field visits to real-world projects enhance their understanding of civil engineering sciences and contribute to broadening students’ knowledge in their field of study.

The Department of Civil Engineering has recently conducted several visits to construction projects supervised by the Ministry of Works, to enhance the practical experience of civil engineering students. These projects include Al-Fateh Highway development, the Multiple Sclerosis Center, and the Salman Town Sewage Treatment Plant.

Dr. Al-Zayani explained that these field visits intened to provide students with experiences related to working on construction sites and to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering concepts students learn in classrooms and practice in the real world.

The Chairperson of the Civil Engineering Department stated, “For example, the visit to the Multiple Sclerosis Center focused on introducing students to the latest developments in the building and construction sector, linking theory to practice and enrich students’ knowledge, through close field observation and examination of the various stages of construction work, methods of implementation, and the various work teams, including design teams, implementation teams, contractors and subcontractors.”

She added, “These visits also aimed to motivate students to exert more efforts for scientific and academic achievement, through identifying the importance of theoretical courses they are studying and linking them to field application and getting to know the problems and challenges facing work teams to implement the project according to its schedule, as well as reasons and details of delay, if any.”
