Dr. Al Mudhahka Commends WHO’s Support for the Health Workforce in the Region

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, stressed that the University of Bahrain is keen to contribute to the development of the health workforce through the programs it offers and building bridges of cooperation with various health organizations.

 

Dr. Al-Mudhahka made this statement when she received the official and coordinator of health workforce development programs at the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Vithia Jolene Gedic on Wednesday December 21, 2022.

 

Dr. Al-Mudhahka welcomed the UN official and praised the role played by the regional office in providing technical support to Member States and strengthening capacities of national health workers.

 

The University President called for more collaboration between UoB and the WHO Regional Office, noting that both the College of Health and Sport Sciences and the College of Sciences at the University of Bahrain offer several academic programs that contribute to qualifying health personnel and developing their capabilities.

 

For her part, the official and coordinator of health workforce development programs expressed her happiness at visiting the University of Bahrain and meeting with the President of the University, stressing the office’s interest in boosting collaboration between the two parties in various fields.

 

The two parties discussed supporting academic programs related to health fields and benefiting from the cadres of the University of Bahrain and the Regional Office in organizing health events and activities to enhance the capabilities of the health workforces.

 

 

 

The meeting was attended by the Vice President for Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies, Dr. Mohammad Redha Qader Abdullah, and the Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences, Dr. Lina Muhammad Khonji from UOB, as well as Dr. Tasneem Atatreh, representative of the WHO Office for the Eastern Mediterranean Region in Bahrain from the World Health Organization.
