The Head of the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Moza Isa Al-Doy, called on history students to regularly visit archaeological sites and Bahrain National Museum, and to seize opportunities to volunteer in scientific teams affiliated with museums, antiquities authorities, and museum lovers’ associations as this would enrich their knowledge and practical experiences.

The Department of Social Sciences, College of Arts, University of Bahrain organized a scientific field visit program for students in the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023, which included Bahrain Fort and Bahrain National Museum, with the participation of the department head, Dr. Al-Doy and the members of the History Department, Dr. Khaled Ismail Al-Hamdani, and Dr. Walid Mohammad Safaei.

Dr. Al- Doy added that students will be able to enroll in specialized courses in antiquities that will later help them practice explorer supporting activities, work as tourist guides, whether for local or foreign tourists, and to educate the community about its heritage and ancient civilization.

During the two visits, the students were briefed on the archaeological sites of the Dilmun cities, the site of Tylos, Bahrain Fort Museum and Bahrain National Museum.

These visits aim to link the theoretical side with the practical side, given that archeology is one of the main sources of history. They also aim to strengthen the bonds of belonging and consolidate identity and citizenship among students.

Dr. Al-Doy stated, “Heritage is a symbol of the country’s civilization and cultural wealth accumulated over hundreds of years. It rather represents the identity of peoples and nations. Therefore, the community shall adhere to its heritage and preserve it, because people are closely linked to their heritage since it represents their identity and cultural roots.”
