UOB President congratulates the winners of the Huawei International Competition

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, received the first place winners in the Huawei ICT competition for the years 2021 and 2022, and praised the students’ honorable performance in various local, regional and international forums and competitions who were honored by the Minister of Transport and Communications, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Thamer Al-Kaabi earlier, after they achieved advanced ranks in this global competition.

Dr. Al-Mudhahka, congratulated the students of the College of Information Technology who won first place in the Huawei competition for year 2021: Abdullah Ali, Sajil Ahmed, and Muhammad Zaishan. She also congratulated the winning students of the same competition for year 2022, namely: Ali Al-Asadi, Sayed Muhammad Baqer, Othman Iftikhar, and Ebtisam Ali, in addition to Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, Dr. Alaa Aldeen Yousef Al-Omari, who won Best Mentor Award.

Vice President for Community Service and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Saleh Al-Ansari, the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Dr. Hessa Jassim Al-Junaid, and Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, Dr. Alaa Aldeen Al-Omari, attended the reception.

For her part, the Dean of the College of Information Technology, Dr. Hessa Al-Junaid, said that UoB students’ presence on the podiums in international competitions, especially the Huawei competition, whether at the local, regional, or international levels, has become expected, due to students’ passion, the quality of academic programs, and the continuous giving professors.

The Dean saluted all participants in this achievement saying: “We are proud of confidence given to us by the university administration, in which the college members proved that they are capable of representing the Kingdom of Bahrain and the National University alike.”

The Huawei ICT Competition’s latest edition (2022) witnessed great rivalry between 15 teams of distinguished technical talents, nominated from among 19,300 participating students from 472 universities and 11 countries from across the Middle East and Central Asia, in order to determine the winners in the competition various categories who will receive cash and incentive prizes, accredited certificates, and training and employment opportunities in Huawei in recognition of their achievements.

Huawei organizes the ICT competition as part of the company’s CSR initiatives to nurture talented young people. More than 80,000 students from across the region have participated in the competition since its launch in 2017. In the 2021 edition, Huawei collaborated with more than 20 ministries and 453 institutions.
