Dr. Qadir: The Graduation Project Is the First Step Towards a Profession Engineering Students from UoB Present 67 Graduation Projects in the First Semester Dr. Haifa Bint Ibrahim Invites Sponsors and Partners to Adopt and Implement Students’ Projects

The Vice President of Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, confirmed that student graduation projects are the first steps towards a professional future, noting the great responsibility that rests on graduates, in effectively contributing to building the country, especially graduates of various engineering disciplines.

This came during Dr. Qadir’s speech at the Graduation Projects Exhibition for students from the College of Engineering of the academic year 2022/2023, which was organized by the College on Thursday under the patronage of the UoB President Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka (16 February 2023), with the participation of both academic and administrative bodies, as well as students and their parents.

Dr. Qadir stated: “We celebrate the achievements of a new group of students from the College of Engineering, after a journey in which they experienced exceptional circumstances, that taught them to be patient, persevering, and persistent.” And he further added that “This success’s cultural and moral proceeds do not only benefit the University, but also benefit our local and regional institutions and societies. We are proud to be in a national university that was and still is a partner in the country’s elevation and advancement.”.

The College’s students presented 67 distinguished graduation projects in the College, which were done by 189 male and female students in the first semester, within six academic programs, which are: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronic Engineering.

Dr. Qadir presented the students who won the best projects with shields, certificates of appreciation, and prizes from the sponsor at the Exhibition opening ceremony, praising the diversity of project topics that explored various engineering issues, such as green building design, virtual laboratories, turbine control, wireless control of robotic hands, and renewable energy.

In addition, the Vice President for Academic Programs and Postgraduate Studies thanked Al-Kooheji Foundation, for sponsoring the graduation projects exhibition, as well as the awards given for the best graduation project in six programs of the College of Engineering.

For her part, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, pointed out that “The graduation project represents the first actual experience that simulates practical life, underlining the importance of graduation projects in engineering education, as one of the most vital building blocks of a knowledge-based economy.

Moreover, Dr. Haifa bint Ibrahim indicated that the graduation projects exhibition is an opportunity to learn about the contributions of students at the bachelor’s level, to achieve integration with the labor market requirements, calling on sponsors and supporters, and College’s partners, to adopt and implement these projects.

In Addition, the Dean expressed her happiness in joining the students in this occasion and said: “This day is the day to harvest and culminate a permanent and continuous effort that you made throughout your academic life at the University, during which you achieved all the requirements for success.”.

While the student in the College of Engineering, Fatima Al-Ka’abi, gave the graduation speech, where she mentioned the difficulties engineering students faced in their academic journey in general, and the difficulties of the graduation project in particular, stressing the importance of persistence, self-belief and cooperation to overcome the difficulties.

Students’ projects – which test students’ abilities and skills – are subject to discussion and evaluation by arbitrators and experts of UoB professors, and others from companies and ministries, and in many cases, professors supervise projects that have more than one student participating in them.
