UoB’s College of Business Administration Introduces Students to Business Models in FinTech

The Department of Economics and Finance at the College of Business Administration at the University of Bahrain (UoB) hosted Dr. Wajeeha Hussain Awadh, CEO of Digital Affairs at Al-Baraka Banking Group, to present a seminar titled (Industry Discussion 4 “Financial Technology: Business Models”), which was attended by a number of the College’s students, on Sunday, March 12, 2023

Dr. Awadh, who is the first Bahraini women to obtain a Ph.D. in financial technology (fintech), explained several aspects in the field of fintech, such as: lending and insurance, blockchain and cryptocurrency, mobile banking services, and electronic wallets.

In addition, she touched on the concept of a “business model” as the rationale for how an organization creates competitive value and delivers it to the customer, and she reviewed a number of examples of business models followed by startups that are on the path of innovation in the financial industry.

It is worth noting that the Department organized three seminars in the first semester under the title “Industry Discussion”, which dealt with early financing, cryptocurrency, and open banking services. The seminars were supervised by Associate Professor in the Finance Department, Dr. Yomna Ahmed Abdulla.
