Getting Acquainted with Control and Operation Techniques and Safety Procedures at Sites Students of the College of Applied Education at UoB Visit Al Dur Phase-II Power and Desalination Plant

30 students from the Department of Engineering Programs at the College of Applied Education at the University of Bahrain (UoB) recently visited Al Dur2 IWPP an Independent Water and Power Project, during which they learned about the station’s departments, methods of power generation and water desalination, within the rules and concepts of health, environment and occupational safety.

This visit came in coordination with the Career Guidance Division of the Career Guidance Office, affiliated to the Vice President’s Office for Community Service and Alumni Affairs at the University.

Where the deputy technical director at the plant, Jaber Abduljalil Moosa, briefed the students on the mechanisms used in the plant’s control center, on-site operations, and how to follow up and coordinate with the control rooms using modern technologies.

It is worth noting that Al-Dur 2 plant is an independent plant, which produces about 1,500 megawatts of energy using gas turbines, operating in the combined cycle, and produces 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day, using reverse osmosis technology.

For her part, Dr. Wafa Hassan Al-Madani, Director of the Engineering Programs Department at the College of Applied Education at UoB, stressed the importance of field visits, and their main role in transferring experiences and providing students with a range of applied and technical knowledge, pointing out that field visits come in accordance with the College’s plans and initiatives to link students’ skills and competencies to the labor market, inform students of the latest technical and industrial developments, and prepare them for the transition from the academic environment to the work environment, emphasizing the main role of business owners in developing and updating education outputs, to meet the current and future needs of the labor market.
