Listing UoB Smart Cities Forum Papers in IET Database

The International Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has listed in its database the papers of the Sixth Smart Cities Forum organized by the University of Bahrain (UoB) in December of last year 2022, in which experts in the fields of smart cities participated.

The Dean of the College of Engineering at the University, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, said: “This listing by the International Institution of Engineering and Technology indicates the quality and seriousness of the published research, and the additions it provides in the fields of smart cities.”.

As 99 papers were listed out of 108 scientific papers that were discussed in the forum, which was held from the 6th to 8th of last December, with the participation of international speakers from several countries, including: the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Britain, India, France, Denmark, and Mauritius.

Moreover, the Dean mentioned that this listing, which happens for the sixth year in a row, enhances the University’s endeavors towards increasing the rates of scientific publication and research citation issued by UoB.

In addition, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim confirmed that the College of Engineering will continue to organize forums related to smart cities, in order to help accelerate the pace of transformation to establish such cities in Bahrain and the region, with their smart systems that facilitate life and contribute to conserving resources in effective and sustainable ways.

The papers reviewed by the forum discussed topics related to smart cities, such as: energy, robotics, control, energy systems, artificial intelligence, image processing, and telecommunications.

For his part, faculty member at the College of Engineering and a member of the Organizing Committee, Professor Ibrahim Abdullah Mattar, stated that the number of published research papers by professors from the UoB is not less than 37, stressing that this step reflects the role played by the University’s professors and their scientific contributions in the field of issuing in-depth research and studies on vital topics, such as smart cities.

Furthermore, he added, “The forum, which is held annually, serves as a discussion platform for researchers from Bahrain, the region, the Middle East, and the world, to study and present the merits of future cities and smart cities, and how to accelerate the pace to comply with their requirements.”
