Dr. Al-Ansari and Al-Buainain review Biodiversity on Campus UoB And the Southern Municipality Discuss Afforestation Plans at The University

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, accompanied by the Director General of the Municipality of the Southern Region, Eng. Isa Abdulrahman Al-Buainain, made an inspection tour of the University’s campus in Sakhir, to follow up on the work of the afforestation project, and to see aspects of the green area in the University, and its biological diversity and native plants, on Monday (June 12, 2023),.
Dr. Al-Ansari confirmed the National University’s continued contributions in sustainable development, the development of the environmental and agricultural sector, and spreading awareness on the importance of changing practices and preserving natural resources, in line with the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, regarding the expansion of afforestation in various governorates of the Kingdom, in order to achieve the sustainability of natural resources and environmental balance.
Moreover, Al-Ansari noted the tangible progress achieved by the University in GreenMetric World University Ranking, which proves its distinction in the environmental aspect, as it launched several green environmental initiatives in its strategic plans, in addition to its advancement in the academic and administrative aspects.
Moreover, the University President reviewed a number of agricultural projects adopted by the University to multiply the green area, with evergreen trees that are suitable for theKingdom of Bahrain’s climate, pointing to aspects of the University’s interest in diversified agriculture, caring for local wildlife, and establishing a culture of water consumption conservation.
For his part, Eng. Al-Buainain said the municipality is keen to increase trees suitable for hot climates, due to their distinction in bearing soil salinity, lack of irrigation, and high absorption of emitted gases, and encouraging individuals to participate in afforestation. He also praised the University’s annual participation in the Bahrain International Garden Show, and its contribution to the national campaign “Forever Green” in the Bahraini fruit garden project at the University.
