At Its Annual Exhibition The College of Engineering at UoB Presents 227 Graduation Projects from Its Architectural Programs

The Department of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Bahrain (UoB) presented 227 graduation projects by its students, along with other designs by students of several specialized courses, in the largest exhibition of student design products in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the opening ceremony of the exhibition today, Thursday (15 June 2023), the President of UoB, Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, gave a speech, in which he praised the Department’s student graduation projects, noting the efforts made by students in research and design, with the support and follow-up of supervisors of faculty members.
The exhibition included 118 graduation projects by the Bachelor’s in Architecture students, 88 projects by the Bachelor’s in Interior Design students, and 21 projects by the Bachelor’s in students in Environmental Architecture, in addition to several student projects from various courses offered by the Department.
Dr. Al-Ansari addressed the University students, saying: “You have made great efforts to achieve the desired level of quality in the completion of these projects, and you must now think of the next step.” He continued, “Think about joining the labor market, whether as business owners or aspiring employees, as having the certificate is not the end of your journey.” stressing that “The labor market always includes opportunities that are often seized by qualified and active graduates who are earnest and persistent.”.
The University President also thanked all the contributors to the exhibition, to the sponsor of the awards for the architecture and interior design programs, Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau, to the “Green Innova” sustainability company for sponsoring the award for the best sustainable project, and the Abdulrahim Al-Kooheji Foundation for Charity for sponsoring the graduation projects exhibition.
Moreover, Dr. Al-Ansari honored the winners of the first and second places in the projects of the Bachelor’s in Architecture, the Bachelor’s in Interior Design, Bachelor’s in Environment Architecture, and the winner of the Best Sustainable Project Award, in addition to three distinguished project owners within the Best Sustainable Project competition itself.
The University President praised the regulation and quality of the students’ projects at the different stages, noting the diversity of the students’ designs: student centers, exhibitions, satellite platforms, museums, sports, cultural, and social centers, among others.
For her part, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, said: “I am pleased on this day, and through the first annual exhibition of the projects of the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, to present a new generation of architects, interior designers and environmental architects, who have completed the best projects according to multiple standards.”,” noting that “These projects represent youthful ideas, and are characterized by the spirit of change and the adoption of innovation and sustainability while preserving the Bahraini authenticity and identity.”.
She stated that, “The Department of Architecture and Interior Design is keen to establish a distinguished generation that is more aware of the responsibilities of designers in terms of mechanisms of research and obtaining knowledge, methods of critically analyzing their environment and the societies in which they live, communicating with the labor market and identifying its requirements, and working on live projects that accommodate social interactions.”.
Student, Yasmeen Mohammed Al-Hindi, gave the graduates’ speech, in which she referred to the study requirements, and the importance of perseverance in order to reach these happy moments, thanking the family and friends who were always encouraging and supportive. Regarding the faculty members, Al-Hindi said: “The faculty members did not only transfer knowledge to us, but also wisdom, and they contributed to shaping us into architects and designers as we are today, as they believe in our abilities.”.
All student projects were evaluated by arbitration committees that included professors from UoB, as well as 19 external arbitrators who are practitioners of architecture and design professions in the private sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain and abroad.
