The College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain (UoB) participated with two projects by its students in a Gulf exhibition for the graduation projects of engineering student, which was hosted recently by Kuwait University, being the first exhibition of its kind at the Gulf level.
The three-day Engineering Design Exhibition included 119 projects by Kuwait University students, while the accompanying Gulf exhibition included 17 graduation projects from several Gulf universities.
Four students from the College of Engineering at UoB participated in the exhibition, accompanied by the head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the College, Dr. Nuha Jamal Al-Zayani, where the two students in the civil engineering program, Maria Khalifa Hassan and Wasan Rafiq Hosni, presented a project for an environmentally friendly building among the Gulf projects. While the two students in the electrical engineering program, Abdullah Awad Hassan, and Fahad Salah Saad, presented a system for power generation and identifying leaks in water desalination plants. The first project was supervised by faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Mohammed Ajmal, while the second project was supervised by faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Dr. Salwa Saleh Baserrah.
The Dean of the College of Engineering at UoB, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, praised the initiative of Kuwait University, which held a Gulf exhibition for engineering graduation projects, accompanying the forty-fourth Engineering Design Exhibition at the College of Engineering and Petroleum at Kuwait University, which it organizes for its students.
The Dean said that Kuwait University addressed several universities in the GCC, received their nominations for graduation projects, then selected a number of them to participate in its exhibition, sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, as supported by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
Moreover, Dr. Haifa bint Ibrahim stated: “There is no doubt that meeting engineering students, examining various engineering projects, and exchanging opinions and experiences will contribute to the development of engineering intellect that leads life,” expressing her pride in the participation of UoB students in this distinguished event.
While Dr. Al-Zayani expressed her appreciation for Kuwait University’s initiative to host a range of engineering graduation projects from nine Gulf universities, including UoB, stressing that this experience contributes to the exchange of ideas to develop the engineering education system in the GCC.
Student Maria Hassan stated: “We designed a 24-storey building that is environmentally friendly in four aspects: allowing the cultivation of certain trees in the balconies, placing solar panels on the roof of the building, recycling “gray water” to water the plants, in addition to using light and environmentally friendly concrete. ”
Furthermore, she expressed her contentment with this “Rich experience in learning about various ideas for graduation projects from various universities, and we compared our performance to these projects.”.
It is worth mentioning that the College of Engineering at UoB discussed and presented about 300 engineering graduation projects in nine academic programs, all of which were evaluated by examination committees including professors of UoB and external examiners who practiced engineering professions in the private sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain and abroad.
