The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, praised the excellence of Bahraini youth in all fields, their ability to enter contests and competitions, and winning international awards with merit, especially the graduates of the National University.

This came on Thursday (June 20, 2023), during the University President’s meeting with the engineer at the National Commission for Space Sciences, Yousef Khaled Al-Qattan, who won the international (Nebula) Award in the field of space sciences, in the University President’s office at the University campus in Sakhir.

The President Dr. Al-Ansari congratulated Eng. Al-Qattan, for winning the International Nebula Award, presented by the Space Generations Advisory Council for the year 2023, expressing his pride in the ambitious young Bahraini capabilities, which were able to raise the name of the Kingdom in all international forums.

For his part, Al-Qattan commended the National Authority for Space Science’s great support for the young Bahraini energies and cadres, and its confidence in their capabilities and excellence. He also expressed his gratitude to UoB, in which he was once a student, praising its role in qualifying and training him, and enabling him to prepare solid scientific research that led to winning the Award.

Al-Qattan – a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering at UoB – is the first Bahraini to receive this Award, of which only 10 winners around the world are selected from among the elite of distinguished young professionals in the space sector, and he won the Award for his excellence in the field of space research.

It is worth noting that the International Astronautical Federation includes 500 members from more than 75 countries around the world, including space agencies, companies, and research and educational institutions. The Nebula Award targets a very limited number of young people across the globe, as more than 300 candidates from more than 50 countries competed for the Award.
