The University of Bahrain Offers the Programs of “Sustainable Energy Systems Transition”, “Sports Law and Management” and “Midwifery”

The Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Athraa Sayed Abbas Al-Mousawi, stressed that the University of Bahrain is keen to offer solid postgraduate programs that respond to the actual community needs and are in line with national and regional research priorities.
Dr. Al-Mosawi said the recent introduction of three new postgraduate programs reflects the keenness of the University to harness scientific research to serve the vital and industrial sectors in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The University of Bahrain announced offering three new postgraduate programs, namely the Master of Sports Law and Management, Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Systems Transition, and Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery and Obstetrics.
The Dean of Postgraduate Studies noted that these three programs raise the number of postgraduate programs at the University of Bahrain to 43 academic programs, to be offered during the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024, namely 34 master’s programs, seven PhD programs, and two diploma programs. She noted that applications for the first semester will continue till August 20, 2023, through the student information management website https://sis.uob.edu.bh.
Dr. Al-Mosawi mentioned that the new programs keep pace with modern scientific dissertations in their respective areas and the knowledge and technical variables, and are compatible with the requirements of the local, regional, and global labor markets.
Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Transition Systems
Regarding this program offered by the College of Engineering, the Dean of the College, Dr. Shaikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, stated, “The Master of Science in sustainable energy transition systems provides various technical and non-technical knowledge related to the energy transition, through a more sustainable framework, and a new approach to understanding the interconnected nature of energy transition systems.”
Dr. Haifa bint Ibrahim noted, “The concept of energy transition is one of the contemporary concepts. It refers to the transition of the energy sector from systems based on fossil fuels for energy production and consumption, including oil, natural gas, and coal to alternative sources with low carbon emissions.”
Dr. Haifa added, “However, the energy transition still poses major technological, commercial and political challenges.” she stressed, “Facing these challenges requires building the necessary capabilities to prepare well-trained professionals with profound knowledge of the requirements of this global transition.”
Dr. Haifa Bint Ibrahim said, “Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Transition Systems, offered by the Department of Chemical Engineering in the College, is a 36-credit hour multidisciplinary program designed to provide systems-based knowledge in several key areas, including sustainable energy, power generation, storage, energy policy and management, and energy digitization. She noted, “Graduates of the program will acquire the latest knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills necessary to address technical, economic, and environmental issues related to various sustainable energy systems.”
Master of Sports Law and Management
The Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Salah Mohammad Ahmed, said the most important characteristic of this program is that it provides the students with a lot of legal and mathematical knowledge and skills, through studying some theoretical and practical courses, and exploring concepts and terms in the field of sports law and management.
Dr. Salah explained that the program outcomes provide graduates with legal and administrative skills in areas of sports activities, and knowledge of rules and regulations governing sports games as well as data related to the sports sector. The program will enable the graduates to conclude professional sports contracts for players as well as contracts regulating sports and media activities, in a manner that would guarantee the rights of the related parties, and solve problems related to sports disputes, whether regarding the interpretation, implementation, or termination of these contracts, as well as sports arbitration issues.
The program is to be offered in collaboration with the College of Business Administration, College of Health and Sport Sciences, College of Arts, and College of Information Technology.
Dr. Ahmed stated, “The new program will enable the graduates to analyze legal and economic issues and related sports disputes. It will also help them employ information and communication technology in solving problems and communicating with others in the legal and sports fields, take responsibility for decision-making in professional and ethical issues and work within a team.”
The Dean stressed that the University of Bahrain is particularly interested in this program as it responds to the needs of the local, Gulf and global labor markets.
Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery and Obstetrics
Regarding this program, the Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences, Dr. Lina Muhammad Khonji, stated, “The program aims to prepare national nursing cadres specialized in midwifery and obstetrics, capable of providing nursing care, based on the latest scientific evidence, for women during the different stages of life, particularly before and during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum period, as well as providing special care for newborns and paying special attention to all aspects related to the health of women and children.”
Dr. Khonji added, “The program of postgraduate diploma in midwifery and obstetrics was developed in accordance with international standards for the practice of the profession of midwifery and obstetrics. It is based on providing the basic competencies for practicing the midwifery and obstetrics profession, in accordance with international education standards of the International Confederation of Midwives, and the system for practicing the profession in the Kingdom of Bahrain according to the licensing system for practicing the midwifery profession of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA).
