The Student Team Wins First Place at the Local Level UoB Qualifies for the Finals of the GCC Robotics Competition

The University of Bahrain (UoB) student team participating in the GCC Robotics Competition, organized by the British Institute for Engineering and Technology (IET), qualified for the finals.

The competition finals are scheduled to be held at the GCC states level on Saturday, November 18, 2023.

The team of female students at the University’s College of Information Technology, consisted of: Sarah Amer, Jinan Ali, and Wiam Ajoor and was trained by Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering, Dr. Alaa Al-Din Al-Omari, won first place in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the qualifiers that took place on Monday, October 23, 2023, at the Benefit Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing at the College of Information Technology.

The competition included six teams from UoB and Bahrain University of Technology in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

For her part, the Dean of the College of Information Technology at the University, Dr. Hessa Jassim Al-Junaid, pointed out the increasing importance of robotics competitions of various types, noting their various benefits, such as: developing the skills of the contestants and providing them with new knowledge and techniques, in addition to their role in enhancing the spirit of discipline and teamwork.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Junaid expressed her happiness with UoB’s team’s victory in the local competition and its qualification for the GCC finals, which will be held online, calling on students who did not participate in the competition to follow the event and plan to be part of it in the next editions.

The GCC Robotics Challenge aims to encourage university students and professionals from all over the GCC states to build powerful and innovative robots, in a pre-designed arena, with specific conditions on place and time, by using their academic knowledge and technical skills. It also aims to discover advanced technologies and contribute to building an educated technical generation that helps in achieving sustainable development goals.
