Dean Of Student Affairs at UoB Participates in the Gulf Disability Forum

Dr. Fatima Mohammed Al-Maliki, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Bahrain (UoB), participated in a working paper in the 21st Gulf Disability Forum, which came under the theme “Integrating People with Disabilities into University Education: Opportunities and Challenges”, and was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council For Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, Chairman of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
Al-Maliki confirmed that students with disabilities at UoB receive special care, as they are provided with a range of services and facilities, that support them in having the optimal study environment and enable them to integrate into the student community.
Moreover, Al-Maliki noted the services provided by the Disability Division at the Deanship of Student Affairs at UoB, including: providing a car that is designated to transport students with disabilities from their residence to the University and vice versa, and providing a car inside the University to transport students between the university buildings and its facilities, in addition to providing student volunteers to write in exams on behalf of students with visual and motor disabilities, extending the time for exams, providing sign language interpreters in coordination with the Ministry of Education, and issuing special permits that allow them to reach the nearest parking spots to the university buildings via their means of transportation, in addition to helping them register courses, and approve the academic schedule at the beginning of each academic semester, and organizing field visits to government agencies related to people with disabilities.
Al-Maliki pointed out the University’s keenness to hold targeted programs and events that contribute to personal refinement and intellectual and mental development, help them integrate within and outside the University, organize purposeful lectures and workshops that assist them in developing a positive self-image, organize special forums for students with disabilities, and organize entertainment programs for them. Also, the University is keen to provide a special guide for students with disabilities, to learn about their rights and duties
