UoB Ranks 25th Globally in Education and Research Within the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for the Year 2023.

The University of Bahrain (UoB) ranked first in the Kingdom of Bahrain in UI GreenMetric World University Ranking for the year 2023 (UI GreenMetric – 2023), and ranked 25th globally in the education and research axis.

Dr. Fuad Mohammed Al-Ansari, President of UoB, expressed his pleasure at this remarkable excellence of the National University in the GreenMetric ranking for the year 2023, which came as a result of the strategic plans followed by the University to improve the administrative, academic, and student aspects, in terms of sustainability and preservation of natural resources.

Al-Ansari stressed that the university seeks to achieve greater progress in the rest of the axes, namely: energy and climate change, waste management, and transportation, looking forward to improving the University’s ranking there after implementing a group of projects in renewable energy and waste management, as well as increasing the green area in a sustainable manner.

As UoB excelled in the education and research axis, with a full score, as it was ranked 25th globally with regard to sustainability courses, financing research related to sustainability, publications, holding events, and the percentage of student activities related to sustainability annually.

While in the context of the water management, in which it obtained a score of 90%, it excelled in the water consumption rationalization program, the water recycling program, treated water consumption, and combating water pollution on campus.

As for infrastructure, UoB received a score of 85%, as it was distinguished by the green spaces on campus, the percentage of open spaces divided by the campus population, and the University’s budget directed towards sustainability.

Th UI GreenMetric World University Ranking (GreenMetric Sustainability) is released by the University of Malaysia, which evaluates universities’ procedures and commitments to sustainability requirements, and received applications from 1,183 universities from 84 countries this year.
