Dr. Hilal: Learning mathematics stimulates cognition, promotes innovation and develops knowledge College of Science at UOB Organizes “Mathematics Games” with Participation of College Affiliates

Dr. Sawsan Juma Hilal, Head of the Mathematics Department at the College of Science at the University of Bahrain, stressed the positive effects of learning mathematics in stimulating cognition, promoting innovation, and developing cognitive skills, including: logical thinking, problem solving, and pattern recognition.

The Department of Mathematics at the Faculty of Science at the university held an event in celebration of the International Day of Mathematics, which falls on March 14 of each year, in the presence of a number of academic staff members and students.

The department organized the fifth edition of the event under the title “Mathematics Games”, and Dr. Sawsan Hilal stressed the importance of this event, which shed light on the importance of mathematics in daily life, and the need to educate young people about sports culture, and the use of interesting and entertaining methods.

Faculty members and students from various departments at the College of Science presented a range of activities, competitions and awards, including interactive sessions, mental skills, crosswords, puzzles, arithmetic challenges questions, time series analysis, statistical analysis, domino and division, and a paragraph to introduce many disciplines in which mathematics is involved, such as: statistics and data science, machine learning, and analytical mathematical engineering.
