Academics at UOB Get Training on Methods of Examination Questions Formulation

As part of the programs organized
by the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership (UTEL) in the University of
Bahrain (UOB) in cooperation with the Higher Education Academy at the United
Kingdom, UTEL held an intensive training workshop for newly assigned professors
at the University at the e-learning center on the University’s campus in
Sakhir, in which a number of academics at UOB participated.
The Assistant Professor in the
Information Systems Department at the College of Information Technology and the
coordinator of the New Professors Program at the University, Dr. Amal Mohammed
Al-Rayes, stated that “The workshop is held annually and is devoted to faculty
members who are newly teaching at UOB, whether they are new to teaching or
newly assigned in UOB.”
Furthermore, she explained that
the workshop is held over two days under the title “New to Teaching in Bahrain (NTB)”,
which reviews evaluation and feedback. On the first day, it addressed a
detailed presentation of the evaluation process, which includes group
evaluation and formative evaluation, in addition to a review of methods of
designing calendars within constructive conformity and according to quality
standards, and she stated that “We address methods of designing courses
and exam questions in line with the requirements of UOB and according to
quality standards.” While on the second day, it addressed feedback,
confirming that “There was a great interaction from the workshop participants,
which reflects their interest in developing their professional skills. “
While the Assistant Professor at
the College of Law, Dr. Arwa Abdullatif Al-Sheikh, who is also one of the
participants in the workshop, confirmed that she benefited from the UTEL’s workshops,
stating: “I noticed a clear change in my teaching style, and my methods of
communicating information to students,” noting that she is participating
for the second time in this workshop after the first that was held in last
September 2019, pointing to her acquisition of modern teaching and evaluation
skills and new methods of formulating exam questions.
