A Lecture at UoB Reviews the Advantages of the Latest “GPIC” Production Units
A scientific lecture at the University of Bahrain (UoB) reviewed the advantages of the environmentally friendly urea plastics production project at the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), which is the company’s latest production unit.
The lecture was organized by the Activities Committee in the Chemical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering, as it hosted the chemical engineers in GPIC hosted Mohammed Jawad and Fahd Al-Ahmad via a video call, in which a number of students and professors from the Department of Chemical Engineering participated.
At the beginning of the lecture, the two engineers expressed their pleasure in meeting the professors of the Department from which they graduated a few years ago, and they went on to highlight the Company’s investment of millions of dollars in the new project with an environmentally friendly technology to produce thousands of tons of urea-formaldehyde per day.
The two engineers explained the design of the new unit in the petrochemical industrial complex, and they technically dealt with chemical reactions and how to apply them by controlling the temperature and pressure in the reactor and absorption tower, followed by the environmental treatment of gases.
It is worth noting that this project achieves self-sufficiency for the produced material, especially since the plant produces the two main feedstocks, urea and methanol.
At the end of the lecture, the head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Dr. Majid Safar, thanked GPIC engineers, describing them as honorable role models for the Department’s graduates.
