A Master’s Degree Thesis Calls Upon Bahraini Newspapers to Highlight more Bahrain’s Effort to Empower Women

News 20 02 2019 1News 20 02 2019 1AA study conducted at the University of Bahrain revealed that Bahraini newspapers place women’s issues and rights at the forefront but called upon them to focus more on Bahrain’s efforts to empower women of all ages.

The findings of this study, conducted by Ms. Semeen Abdul Hameed Al Mahadin as part of her master’s thesis in media studies, urged the Bahraini press to address women’s various issues in more detail. The thesis was entitled ‘Women’s issues in the Bahraini Press and the Attitudes of Women Towards That: An Analytical Study.’

The study found out that, according to the National Plan for the Advancement of Women 2013-2022, Bahraini press tend to focus more on the impact of equal opportunity, then the impact of family stability, followed by the impact of experience, and finally the impact of education.

The study also emphasised that there is a strong relationship between the women of Bahrain who regularly read newspapers and their satisfaction with how these newspapers deal with women’s issues. The more women read newspapers, the more effort daily print media put in the portrayal and coverage of women’s issues. The study also revealed that most women read daily newspapers at least three times a week.
