A Thesis at the University of Bahrain Proposes a Framework for Maintenance Departments in Industrial Companies that Reduces Malfunctions by 80%

A thesis at the University of Bahrain proposed a framework for improving the performance of maintenance departments in industrial companies, which would help reduce the total number of malfunctions by 80%.
An examination panel has recently examined the student in the master’s program in engineering management, Mohammad Al-Sayed Jaafar Ali Sharaf, in the thesis he submitted to complete the requisites of a master’s degree in engineering management.
The thesis entitled “Improving the performance of departments of maintenance of precision instrumentation and control in industrial companies: a case study in Aluminum Bahrain (Alba).”
The researcher indicated that by implementing the proposed framework, consisting of eight elements, it will be possible to increase productivity by eliminating malfunctions, improving safety and health, preserving the environment in the workplace and increasing the efficiency of equipment to achieve the aspirations of the company, in the least possible time and at the lowest cost.
The researcher pointed out that the importance of the thesis lies in applying the latest maintenance management tools and methods, and raising the level of awareness among employees of the importance of proactive maintenance, such as preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance, and adopting them as one of the important strategic factors to maintain an advanced competitive position in the market.
The thesis recommended integrating smart means, such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things in monitoring and controlling processes, writing detailed periodic reports on equipment performance, helping with analyzing malfunctions, and identifying real causes of malfunctions to help find drastic solutions thereof, to ensure that they shall not occur again.
The discussion panel consisted of the faculty member at the College of Engineering, University of Bahrain, associate professor Mohammad Bassam Nabhan, assistant professor at the same college, Badr Darwish Al-Mannai as supervisors, the faculty member at the College of Business Administration, the University of Bahrain, associate professor Ali Al-Amir as an internal examiner, and the faculty staff at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates Prof. Imad Al-Seyouf as an external examiner.
