Among 111 Ideas and Over 500 Participants UOB Students Win 3rd Place in ‘Cyber Guards Hackathon’

Students from the University of Bahrain secured third place in the first edition of the ‘Cyber Guards Hackathon,’ held under the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor, Commander of Bahrain’s Royal Guard, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nasser Centre for Science and Technology. The event, themed ‘Security Makers,’ was organized in cooperation with the National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) and the University of Bahrain.
A team of university students—Ghufran Sheikh, Ali Al-Azzawi, Abdullah Shahwan, Abdulaziz Al-Dosari, and Zahid Saleh—participated with an innovative idea to develop a browser tool that allows users to check the security of links and emails. The tool employs a technology that integrates cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
A total of 23 ideas reached the final stage, including nine from the University of Bahrain, out of 111 submissions. More than 500 participants from 52 government and private educational institutions and universities took part in the first edition of the competition.
The top three winning teams received cash prizes at the closing ceremony, and all participating students were awarded certificates of appreciation. The ceremony also featured the opening of an exhibition showcasing the qualified ideas from the ‘Cyber Guards Hackathon’.
