Bahrain University students represent the Kingdom in Microsoft Imagine Cup completion

Dr Hesham Al-Ammal, Dean of the College of Information Technology, said UoB teams were at the top of the list of the teams selected to take part in the national elimination round in the Imagine Cup competition held annually by Microsoft. He added that the six UoB teams, which were among 37 participating teams, reached the elimination round this year.

“Imagine Cup” is an annual competition sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corp. which brings together young technologists worldwide to help resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges.

The Imagine Cup comprises Software Design, where teams from secondary schools, vocational institutes and colleges attempt to resolve software problems in certain area.

Dr Al-Ammal pointed out that most of the IT students, especially graduating ones, are participate in these completions with their graduating projects. This is something encouraged by the University as a measure of the University’s standard of competing locally, regionally and internationally. He added that IT College has recently offered, in collaboration with Microsoft, an introductory programme to students on the “Imagine Cup” theme, application objectives and criteria.

In the past years, UoB students occupied high positions and took part in the regional and international elimination rounds. In 2014, UoB team gained the third position in the international competition in Seattle, USA.
