Celebrating International Nurses Day Nursing Students at UoB Provide Health Instructions to the Community

The College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS) at the University of Bahrain (UoB) celebrated the International Nursing Day on Thursday (12 May 2022), at Seef Mall, where the students of the Nursing Department at the College presented a variety of health awareness activities, which contribute to the health advancement of the community, under the title “Your Health is My Responsibility”.
Dean of CHSS, Dr. Lina Mohammed Khenji, stated that: “The College celebrates the role of the nursing staff in promoting health and community service, and their effective roles at all levels, by providing nursing care in all circumstances and conditions every year.”
Also, Dr. Khenji explained that this activity comes within the framework of UoB’s community participation, and the influential role of the University in serving the community, through raising awareness and promoting community health, which contributes to maintaining the health of the Bahraini community and increasing health awareness among it.
Dr. Khenji clarified that this activity included multiple awareness activities, distributed over five main platforms, specialized in the early detection of chronic diseases, by measuring vital signs, weight, height and calculating body mass, in addition to blood sugar. As well as proper nutritional health, and how to deal with chronic diseases, as the students provided health instructions to attendees on the following diseases: diabetes, high blood pressure, sickle cell anemia, and maintaining kidney functions and protecting them from diseases.
In addition, the activity included a platform on how to manage psychological tensions and stress, in which the attendees were briefed on breathing exercises and meditation, to help them learn how to manage stress and psychological tensions. Also, CHSS dedicated a platform for health awareness for children, in which the College used various methods of entertainment, in order to improve the health of children, especially for those who suffer from chronic diseases such as: diabetes and asthma.
This activity is one of the programs and activities organized by the University to celebrate International Nursing Day, as it gives nursing students an opportunity to engage in providing community services and meaningful health activities.
