College of Business Administration at UoB Holds a Lecture on Accounting and Entrepreneurship

The Accounting Department at the College of Business Administration at the University of Bahrain (UoB) organized a lecture on Accounting and Entrepreneurship, on Tuesday (17 May 2022), which was attended by more than 120 participants of academics, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students.
The lecture, entitled “Accounting and Entrepreneurship: How to Use Accounting to Start a Business”, was presented by Yousef Al-Ashiri, the managing partner of Trust Audit and Consulting. The session was moderated by the lecturer at the Accounting Department, Dolah Abdullah Al-Mulla, who opened the meeting with some statistical facts in the field of entrepreneurship that aim to inspire and encourage listeners to take bold steps towards launching a business. Also, she referred to some technical skills, such as a simple knowledge of the world of accounting, which is necessary for any entrepreneur, in addition to general skills such as communication and leadership.
For his part, Al-Ashiri spoke about his diverse experience of more than sixteen years in the field of auditing for many sectors, including banking and financial institutions, the telecommunications sectors, and the manufacturing sectors, through his career in audit services at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Trust Audit and Consulting, and his work as a financial advisor at Saudi Makamen Oil and Gas Services Group.
Moreover, he advised future accountants to obtain specialized professional certificates and qualifications, update their general knowledge of trade and entrepreneurship, acquire analytical and communication skills, and develop their abilities to adapt and be flexible. Also, he indicated that his communication skills and self-confidence contributed to making the right decision at the right time, knowing the timing of making the decisive decision if the previous decision did not succeed and did not achieve what was expected, and how to take a step forward and move to the next idea or project.
Al-Ashiri touched upon some of the challenges facing accountants, such as the use of software, the automation of accounting processes, the acquisition of new skills that are constantly required, and the emergence of new rules and regulations.
He answered students’ questions on matters such as investing or starting a business when there is a small amount of money, and the appropriate timing to take professional certificates such as: CPA, ACCA and CFA.
The Assistant Professor in the Accounting Department at the College of Business Administration, Dr. Najeeba Abdullah Al-Zaimoor, praised the efforts made in this lecture, and its great benefit in linking theoretical concepts about entrepreneurship with practical reality, and building a better future.
It is worth noting that Al-Ashiri holds accreditations from the United States as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and a Certified Global Management Accountant (CGM). Also, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), a fellow member of the Colorado Association of Certified Public Accountants (COCPA), and a member of the Professional Association for Information Systems Audit and Control (ISACA) Bahrain branch. In addition, he is a certified accounting expert at the Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
