Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, inaugurated on Tuesday November 16, 2021 the Solar Decathlon Middle East competition, with the participation of eight international universities, including The University of Bahrain, representing the Kingdom of Bahrain with Go Smart team. The competition will continue until the 23rd of this month and the winners will be declared on November 24, 2021.
This is the second edition of the competition of building smart homes focusing on promoting a sustainable lifestyle. The eight qualified teams, which competed against 18 international university teams, worked towards building a smart home powered by solar energy, in a period not exceeding two weeks.
The University of Bahrain team, led by the Head of the Physics Department at the College of Science, Dr. Hanan Mubarak Al Buflasa, is competing to build a house that concentrates on several principles, the most important of which are sustainability, future, innovation, clean energy, mobility, smart solutions, and comfort.
The University of Bahrain team consisted of 38 male and female students representing the colleges of sciences, engineering, information technology, and arts. The students built the house on their own, without the help of contracting companies, because one of the conditions of the competition is learning how to implement.
This competition is organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Energy, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai.
