Designing a green house brings happiness

The University of Bahrain is currently preparing to participate in the 13th Bahrain International Garden Exhibition (7-20), held annually under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the continuous support of HRH Princess Sabika Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King of Bahrain, Chairman of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD). The slogan of this year is “Mini Gardens”.

The participation of the university will be through the design of a small house with a variety of internal and external agriculture. The University pavilion is set to include home-grown farming, which requires a small amount of water and simple care. The aim of the University is to present ways to invest small farm space in agriculture and encourage the increase of green space in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The idea of the University’s pavilion is in line with NIAD, which focuses on methods and ways that make use of small and limited spaces in creating gardens and to highlight the best solutions that allow the visitors to know the best ideas and methods that help them in designing available agricultural spaces, because of their many benefits such as reducing the temperature, purifying the atmosphere and beautifying these areas, whether with ornamental plants or plants that produce some of the food needs of their owners, combining production with beauty.

The University of Bahrain is set to offer an application that will help the public learn about home agriculture and its types. It will also distribute leaflets aimed at educating visitors to the importance of home agriculture and its benefits on physical and psychological health and in reducing the amount of carbon dioxide and other harmful gases.

NIAD has commissioned the University of Bahrain to design and implement the corridor between the two exhibition halls this year. The University focused on showing the green areas in Bahrain about 25 years ago and their positive effects on the environmental, health, psychological, aesthetic and educational aspects. The design also includes the size of the current agricultural situation and its adverse effects.

The University of Bahrain stand won the first place in more than one exhibition, last of which is 2016, winning the first place in the awareness category, among 55 participants from different countries and public and private sectors.
