In cooperation with the Bahrain Society of Engineers and the Communications Branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the University of Bahrain (UOB) organized the second Middle East Communications Conference, which will begin on Tuesday evening (18 November 2019) at the Diplomat Radisson Hotel.

The conference shall discuss about 70 scientific papers on the current state of communication technology, and its future prospects, especially the fifth generation (5G) technologies, their challenges and their applications, over a period of three days.

Also, the conference is sponsored by the Minister of Transportation and Communications, Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, and it shall be accompanied by a specialized exhibition and workshops from leading technology companies.

This event brings together researchers, developers and practitioners interested in the advancement of modern communication systems, as well as network experts and emerging information and communication technologies, to present their latest research and findings, as it attracts speakers from countries all over the world, such as: Canada, China, the United States, and the countries of the Middle East.

The conference is rich with its themes and programs, as it focuses on various aspects related to 5G technologies and wireless communications, includes specialized workshops, and touches on modern topics, such as blockchain and artificial intelligence and its applications.

Among the Conference’s sessions, there will be a session on the role of technology in achieving sustainability on the planet, and its applications to conserve resources and make optimal use of them. Also, it examines recent and future trends in communication technology, the fundamentals of telecommunications engineering, and computer engineering.

It is worth noting that the first edition of the scientific conference was held in the Lebanese capital of Beirut in April of 2018.

The CEO of the Second Middle East Communication Conference, a member of the faculty of the College of Engineering at UOB, Prof. Dr. Mohab Abdulhameed Mangoud, stated that the Conference has six main speakers who are considered among the leading communications scientists in the world.

Also, Prof. Mangoud indicated that among the keynote speakers is the Professor of Communications Engineering at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Prof. Dr. Salim Mohammed Alouni, who holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Caltech in California, United States of America, and he worked in many universities, such as: Minnesota and Minneapolis in the United States of America, and it is scheduled for Dr. Alouni to speak about the future of communications systems and beyond 5G, and the regulation of the frequency spectrum.

Also, Dr. Mangoud mentioned that among the keynote speakers is the Director of the IEEE in Europe and the Middle East and Professor of Communication Systems at the Yurkon Research Center in France, Dr. Adeline Costantini.

Dr. Costantini holds a PhD in computer science at Cergy-Pontoise University in France, and he has worked as a lecturer and researcher in several universities.

As for the third keynote speaker, it is going to be the Professor of Communication and Network Engineering, former Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, Prof. Andrew Nix, who has been a lecturer for 27 years and will review 5G mobile network projects in the United Kingdom.

While Professor of Computer and Network Engineering at Alexandria University, Prof. Mustafa Youssef Amin, will present a scientific paper on identifying places inside closed areas by wireless signals.

Moreover, the fifth keynote speaker at the Conference, who is a Professor at Lauria Laboratory at the University of De Lorraine in France and a member of IEEE, Professor. Enrico Natalizio, will present a scientific paper on the challenges facing communication networks.

It is worth mentioning that Prof. Natalizio research interests include drone communications, robots, sensors with applications in network technologies for disaster management, infrastructure monitoring, Internet of Things (IOT) privacy, and cybersecurity.

While the sixth speaker is a faculty member at the University of Glyndwr and the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, Prof. Peter Axel, who will talk about the electromagnetic effects of communication devices.
