Dr. Dheya Aljalahma appointed Head of English Language Department

news 11 10 2017 2Assistant Professor Dr. Dheya Saqr Aljalahma has been appointed Head of the Department of English Language and Literature at the College of Arts at the University of Bahrain.

Dr. Al- Aljalahma holds a Ph.D. in Translation Studies at the University of Salford, UK, in 2013 and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics at the University of Bahrain in 2002. She also did her Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature at the UoB in 1994.

Dr. Aljalahma has been working in the Department of English Language and Literature since 2002 until now. Prior to joining the University of Bahrain she worked as a teacher at the Ministry of Education between 1996 and 2002.

Dr. Aljalahma has academic experience in translation and relevant disciplines, translation theory, comparative analysis, term translation and Arabization, and applied linguistics. She also has academic experience in language skills, text analysis, and writing skills including essay writing. She has provided training workshops in specialized translation, in addition to teaching English for specialized academic purposes.

Dr. Aljalahma’s research interests focus on the study and evaluation of cultural problems in translation, translation of cultural and religious texts and those dealing with women’s issues. Some of these issues were presented as scientific papers at translation conferences.
