Dr. Khonji Represents UoB in Bahrain Council for Health Studies and Specialties

The Dean of the College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS), Dr. Leena Mohammad Khonji, represented the University of Bahrain (UoB) in the Bahrain Council for Health Studies and Specialties, based on a decision issued by His Excellency Lieutenant-General Dr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, to nominate members of the Bahrain Council for Health Studies and Specialties.
As the Council is responsible for taking the necessary measures to ensure compliance with national and international accreditation standards for health training, and to improve training results in order to prepare, develop and qualify workers in the health sector, while raising their efficiency, and improving their professional performance, in order to achieve the comprehensive development of medical and health services in the Kingdom.
In addition, the Council works to supervise the establishment, follow-up and evaluation of training programs, developing them to gain international recognition, establish a mechanism for issuing certificates in each of the national health specialties and programs, equivalence and evaluation of professional certificates granted by the various training programs, suggesting funding sources for health care training programs in the Kingdom, and periodically establishing training programs based on the health workforce needs , according to reports of the Strategic Health Planning Committee, to achieve comprehensive health coverage. In addition, the Council shall form specialized scientific sub-committees for each medical or health specialization to develop training programs for each specialty, establish specialized training programs, and carry out tasks for each program.
It is worth noting that Dr. Khonji holds a PhD in Nursing Philosophy from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, and specializes in nursing sciences, women and child health, midwifery and obstetrics, nursing education, scientific research, and advanced nursing practice.
Dr. Khonji represents the Kingdom of Bahrain in the World Health Organization (WHO) as Director of WHO Collaborating Center for Nursing Development in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, in addition to her membership in the Scientific Association of Arab Nursing Faculties, and the Scientific Network of Researchers in Women’s and Child Health at the University of Manchester. Also, Dr. Khonji is a member of the Health Strategic Training and Planning Committee at the Supreme Council of Health and has participated in many scientific conferences and international events on nursing and midwifery sciences, and women’s and children’s health.
