Dr. Mohammed Baqer Appointed Dean of UoB Applied Studies

DrMohdBagerUoB Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Mohammed Baqer as the Dean of the College of Applied Studies (CAS). Dr. Baqer, who is currently Director of the UoB Center for Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation, was nominated for this position by Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain. The decision was made during the 14th regular meeting of the Board of Trustees, held at the University headquarters in Sakhir on Wednesday (13 February 2019).

Dr. Baqer, a faculty member of Computer Engineering at the College of Information Technology, had previously held the position of Director of Administrative and Technical Programs at the College of Applied Studies.

Dr. Baqer participated in several committees at the university level as well as nationally and internationally. He represented the Kingdom of Bahrain in the discussions to establish the GCC Qualifications Framework (GQF). He provided consultation and helped in drafting level descriptors. He also represented Bahrain in the Supreme Advisory Committee of the National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was responsible for its design, implementation and improvement. He was also on a secondment from UoB to the Bahrain Education and Training Quality where he was appointed as Senior Manager at the General Directorate of National Qualifications Framework.

He is a member of IEEE and ACM and is an international referee and a renowned conference speaker. His research interests include Artificial Intelligence (AI), Future Internet, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), Cybersecurity, Logarithms, Energy-Saving Applications, and Integrating Social Networking and Sensor Networks. His research has been published in various books and refereed journals.

Dr. Baqer obtained both his Master’s degree and PhD from Monash University in Australia, where he won several scientific research awards. He has been on numerous judging panels including the panel for Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad International Youth Creativity Award, Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Award for Graduation Projects, the GCC eGovernment Award, the Electronic Excellence Award and the National Robotics Challenge.
