During His Participation in the “First Conference of the Saudi Coaches Association”, a Professor at the University of Bahrain Proposes a Program to Develop Talented Athletes

The assistant professor at Department of Physical Education, College of Health and Sports Sciences, University of Bahrain, Dr. Hussain Jaafar Mahdi, presented a program to embrace and nurture talented athletes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, during his participation in the “First Conference of the Saudi Coaches Association”, held on the sidelines of the Saudi Games from October 27 to November 7, 2022. More than 400 male and female trainers of various sports from the Kingdom of Bahrain attended the conference.

 

Dr. Mahdi gave a lecture at the conference held under the patronage of the President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, HRH Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, titled, “Scientific Foundations for Designing Muscular Strength Programs for Talented Players”. He explained the scientific steps to build a scientific and safe training program that helps the talented athlete reach the podiums and protects them from sports injuries.

 

Dr. Mahdi recommended “Paying attention to teaching sports talents at an early age weight training, especially free weights, under the supervision of a specialist in the field of muscular strength and physical preparation. He also stressed the importance of developing Saudi national cadres who hold professional certificates in muscular strength and preparation, including Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS), accredited by the American National Association of Muscular Strength and Physical Preparation.

 

Dr. Mahdi called for the establishment of applied field workshops to provide Saudi national trainers with the skills of teaching the correct technical performance of weight exercises, especially free weights, because of their importance in the development of athletes. He also called for conducting applied field workshops on the foundations and steps of designing muscular strength programs for talented athletes so that national coaches can acquire the skills of mentoring training loads using weight training through various tools and equipment.

 

 

Dr. Mahdi stressed the importance of holding training workshops on designing the annual plan for muscular strength programs, and developing skills of Saudi national coaches, on how to mentor training loads, during the periods of the training season, in order to prepare athletes at the right time, and avoid overtraining.

The conference aims to develop national trainers to international levels.
