During Its Participation In BITEX UoB Presents the Experience of Technological Transformation to Cloud Computing

Visitors to the Bahrain International Technology Exhibition (BITEX) praised the experience of the University of Bahrain (UoB) in transferring the information technology infrastructure to the Amazon cloud (Web Services), and the extent to which this experience contributed to improving the performance level of basic applications by more than 40%.
UoB participated in the tenth edition of the Information and Communication Technology Conference (METICT) and BITEX, during the period (14-16 June 2022), which were held at the Bahrain Convention Center in the Gulf Hotel.
On this occasion, the Director of the Information Technology Center at UoB, Wael Mohammed Abu Muslim, said: “The participation of the University of Bahrain in BITEX aims to highlight the digital transformation projects that have taken place at the University of Bahrain, and their impact on the educational process and the graduates of the University of Bahrain, in addition to specialized academic programs in the field of information technology”.
Moreover, Abu Muslim explained that the participation of UOB in such events “is a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge between public and private sector institutions in the field of information technology, and it helps in rehabilitating the human cadre, which is the most important elements of the digital transformation process, in addition to spreading the technical culture required for the digital transformation process, to learn of the latest technical solutions required to solve business problems in organizations, challenges, and best practices in digital transformation processes”.
Also, Abu Muslim indicated that the transfer of the IT infrastructure to the Amazon cloud contributed to an improvement in the level of electronic services provided to students by more than 50%, as well as reducing expenses, enhancing security, accelerating the launch of projects and implementing new ideas.
For his part, Head of the Information Technology Department at the Information Technology Center, Suhaib Mohammed Al-Abdi, said: “The participation of the University of Bahrain in BITEX is an ideal opportunity to emphasize the readiness and development of the digital infrastructure at UOB, while highlighting its digital capabilities and technical resources, which Supports and enhances the confidence of customers of all sorts”.
As the University showed the visitors of the exhibition: the student information management system, the correspondence management system, the home page portal, in addition to the systems and sub-pages on the Amazon cloud. Also, it exhibited modern academic programs related to information and communication technology in the fields of information technology, and the new programs: Bachelor’s in Cyber Security , Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Bachelor’s in Cloud Computing, Master’s in Machine Learning and Intelligent Computing, Master’s in Communications and Networks, Master’s in Renewable Energy Engineering, Master’s in Artificial Intelligence Engineering, Master’s in Big Data Science and Analysis, in addition to a PhD program in Business Analytics.
In addition to presenting and launching seven scientific research centers such as: the Cloud Innovation Center, the Space Innovation Center, the Virtual Reality Lab, the Internet of Things Lab, and the Artificial Intelligence and Computing Lab, as well as a presentation of 120 academic programs at UoB.
The conference, which was held under the slogan “Leading the Path Towards the Digital Economy through Artificial Intelligence”, focused on the role of the ICT sector in the economic recovery in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in line with the ICT sector strategy 2022-2026, emanating from the Economic Recovery Plan. It is noteworthy that the ICT conference and BITEX are the largest of their kind in the field of information and communication technology in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
