Emphasizing The Role of Language as A Gateway to Understanding and Learning About Cultures UoB’s Confucius Celebrates the Graduation Of 25 Government Employees of Learners of Chinese

The Vice President for Academic Programs and Graduate Studies at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Director of the Confucius Institute at Bahrain, Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, stressed the importance of the Institute’s role in strengthening the ties of understanding and cooperation between Bahrain and China, as part of the Belt and Road Initiative and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. Referring to the Confucius Institute’s work in achieving this goal for years, by relying on educational and cultural communication between Bahrain and China, as the language is a gateway to learning about the ancient Chinese culture.
This came in the opening speech delivered on behalf of the President of UoB, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, during the seventh closing ceremony of the Chinese language course for government employees, which was held on (Monday, July 4, 2022), in the presence of Colonel Ali Hassan Al-Yaqoub, a representative of the Bahrain Defense Force, with the Director of the Department of Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al-Dhaen, members of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Institute at UoB, and government employees participating in the Chinese language course.
The trainees, who were 25 government employees, received the graduation certificate for the first, second and third levels, and the trainees, Maram Mohammed Oqla and Ali Saleh Ahmed, were honored with the Excellence Award, while the trainees, Aziza Abdulhai Al-Sayed, and Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, were honored with the Perseverance Award for unceasingly continuing their studies of the Chinese language.
For her part, the Director of the Confucius Institute from the Chinese side, Dr. Zhou Qianwen, thanked the trainees of government employees for their fruitful efforts, and touched on the history of the Chinese government language course program, which dates back to 2014 when the institute was established under the supervision of Shanghai University in China and UOB, and since then, more than 200 government employees in Bahrain have taken Chinese language courses.
Moreover, Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al-Dhaen gave the trainees’ speech, in which she praised the role of the Institute in increasing and enhancing understanding and opening up prospects for interdependence between the two friendly peoples, and the role of cultural interaction in consolidating communication and dialogue between peoples to promote the principle of world peace, noting the importance of the ancient Chinese language as it is one of the oldest languages in the world for one of the largest and most important historical civilizations, and one of the largest and most powerful countries in the world today.
The event concluded with the screening of the Chinese movie “The Grandmaster”, a dramatic film that tells the life story of the famous martial arts instructor “Ip Man” and his style of martial arts and South Chinese Kung Fu “Wing Chun”.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Confucius Institute Board of Directors, Dean of the College of Arts, Dr. Abdulaziz Mohammed Bulaila, and Dean of Admission and Registration, Dr. Amal Zayed Al-Zayed.
