Exhibiting Chinese and Arab Traditional Costumes.. UoB’s Confucius Celebrates Bahraini Women’s Day

On the occasion of the “Bahraini Women’s Day”, which falls on the 1st of December 2021, the Confucius Institute at the University of Bahrain (UoB) held a traditional Chinese costume show.

In a welcoming statement, the Director of the Confucius Institute, Dr. Qianwen Zhou, expressed her pleasure with her presence in the Kingdom of Bahrain, calling for building bridges of cultural communication and creating opportunities for scientific exchange between Bahraini and Chinese female scientists and specialists.

While the President of UoB, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, emphasized the unlimited support that Bahraini women enjoy from the Supreme Council for Women, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa, and she praised the initiative of the Confucius Institute in joining Bahraini women on this occasion.

As a video was played of the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Anwar Habibullah, in which he said, “I extend my highest congratulations and blessings, on my behalf and on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Bahrain, to Bahraini women, and to members of the University of Bahrain on the occasion of Bahraini Women’s Day, wishing Bahraini women continued success, in addition to their remarkable successes in various fields,”, quoting the famous Chinese proverb “Women hold up half the sky.”

Furthermore, he indicated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s care and attention to women’s affairs and their development, under the auspices of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, and the leadership of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ebrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Women.

Also, a group of faculty members from the Institute and its students delivered congratulatory words to the Bahraini woman, while the Chinese language teacher Zi Wun Xi performed Chinese folk music, and student Siraj Hussain – winner of the Excellence Prize in the 20th Chinese Bridge Competition – performed a musical piece with the harp.

Additionally, a group of school students and students of the Chinese language participated in the Chinese and Arab traditional fashion show, and the attendees got an opportunity to participate in coloring paintings of Bahraini and Chinese traditional costumes.

It is noteworthy that the Confucius Institute was established in April of 2014 at UoB and it teaches the Chinese language to those wishing to learn it, and works to strengthen cultural and scientific ties between (Beijing) and Manama.
