In a Ceremony Organized by the College of Health and Sport Sciences, Nursing Students at the University of Bahrain Take the Oath of Profession and Responsibility

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, confirmed the magnitude of the nursing students’ responsibility and their mission as the future nurses in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

 

Dr. Al-Mudhahka stated, “ I highly appreciate the royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the king of the Kingdom of Bahrain, may God protect him, and the wise directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to continue to promote the health sector in the Kingdom, and the unlimited support provided by the wise leadership to the University of Bahrain in general, and the College of Health and Sport Sciences in particular.

 

Dr. Al-Mudhahka addressed about 350 male and female students, during a ceremony organized by the College of Health and Sport Sciences for students to take the nursing oath “Today, by taking the nursing oath and the  declaration of Professional Responsibility, you bear the weight of a great humanitarian mission that embodies the concepts of giving, dedication, and sacrifice and God-fearing. You shall provide all nursing care conscientiously, carefully, and safely, bearing in mind the ethics and morals of the profession, regard the interest of patients as a top priority, and serve the Bahraini community as much as possible.”

 

Dr. Al-Mudhahka added, “You will recall this day throughout your distinguished profession. You swore to Allah, the country, and the University to bear the responsibility. We are fully sure that you are up to the responsibility because you follow the example of the distinguished nurses.”

 

The President of the University of Bahrain, Dr. Al-Mudhahka stressed the importance of the prominent role played by the College of Health and Sport Sciences and the efforts it makes to develop academic programs and provide the appropriate environment for teaching, learning and clinical training. The College has graduated qualified nurses capable of taking the responsibility, making decisions, and enhancing the health level in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

 

For her part, the Dean of the College of Health and Sport Sciences, Dr. Lina Mohammad Khonji, addressed the nursing students, explaining that wearing the nursing uniform means full responsibility as trainees in the present time and practitioners of the profession in the future. She said “By taking the oath today, you make a promise to yourselves to provide the best nursing care to all who need it regardless of their gender, color, race, and religion, anywhere and under any circumstances. You swore to God Almighty to commit to performing your duty, provide comprehensive care to the members of the community and maintain human dignity.

 

Dr. Khonji recommended students promote their profession and seek to improve their professional performance, through continuing education, active participation in scientific research and application of modern nursing practices that contribute to improving the quality of nursing care in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

 

Dr. Khonji expressed her pride that the University of Bahrain has a global reputation. This is why the Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sport Sciences was selected as a WHO collaborating center to develop the nursing profession in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

 

The oath-taking ceremony, which was held in Shaikh Abdulaziz Al Khalifa Hall at the University’s premises in Sakhir, was attended by the vice-presidents of the university, WHO Representative in Egypt, Dr Naeema Al-Gasser, the Former Regional advisor for Nursing, Dr Fariba Al-Darazi, some invitees and those interested in nursing.

 

Nursing students in the first academic year expressed their willingness to perform their role in nursing sincerely and honestly. Students pledged to perform their duty towards the community, while maintaining human dignity and respect and seeking to practice the profession with conscious efforts as nurses representing an example to educate the community and make every effort to develop the skills they gained in training to provide their patients with the best nursing care.

 

It is worthy to note that the College of Health Sciences was established in 1976, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Bahrain and moved to the University of Bahrain in 2011. The college offers a bachelor’s program in nursing and an associate diploma in five majors, namely dental health, medical laboratory technology, pharmacy, public health, and radiology.
