In Cooperation With UNDP, UOB Promotes the 2030 Agenda for SDG by Developing an SDG course for the PhD Program in Environment and Sustainable Development
The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the University of Bahrain (UOB) held a training session by a group of experts from Global CAD, during the period from the 29th to the 30th of June 2020, in which 17 faculty members from various disciplines at the University were trained to manage the content of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) course that was prepared by a group of experts through UNDP.
This cooperation comes to strengthen the partnership between UOB and UNDP through the development of the SDG course for the PhD in Sustainable Development program in the College of Science. Global CAD is known for its extensive experience in the field of development goals (the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals) and its emphasis on the importance of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to enhance the social, economic, environmental and other dimensions of global human development.
The course that has been developed focuses on the environmental framework of the sustainable development goals with an explanation of the legal and economic role of the process of activating sustainable development and its impact on society and an individual’s life, through realistic examples and success stories from around the world in general and the Arab region in particular. It is worth noting that UOB has contributed to promoting SDG through global partnerships and by offering academic programs related to scientific research in the field of sustainable development.
In a welcoming speech at the beginning of the session, both the President of the University of Bahrain, Prof. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, and the Resident Representative of UNDP, Mr. Stefano Pettinato, stressed the importance of this cooperation between the two institutions, which comes within a broader framework for the implementation of a joint project to support UOB in promoting the 2030 Agenda for SDG, through innovation, capacity development and knowledge exchange, as UOB is the national university that has a fundamental role in developing human capital, pioneering innovation, and contributing to the economic development of a pioneering society.
