Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain, praised the students who have shown special talents and abilities in creative writing. He also praised the cooperation between the University of Bahrain and the College of Charleston in South Carolina in the United States, which collaborated to train a group of university students on creative writing.

Prof. Hamzah added that this collaboration would allow more students who are interested in developing their creative literary writing to join the program in the future.

Professor Britt Loot, Creative Writing Professor at the College of Charleston, said that the idea came when he visited the University of Bahrain and met with Dr. David Diller from the Department of English Language and Literature. They discussed the possibility of graduate studies students at the College of Charleston offering students at the University of Bahrain a program on creative writing.

Prof. Lott praised the students’ writing skills, saying that he was impressed with their commitment to learning. He also hoped that this program would continue to attract more students in the future.

The College of Charleston has collected the writings of 12 students who have participated in this program in a special book entitled “Under the Bahraini Sky.” The book included poetry, stories and other creative writings.

The meeting was also attended by Prof. Wahib Issa Al Nasser, Vice President for Academic and Graduate Programs; Dr. Abdulaziz Bu Leila, Dean of the College of Arts; and Mr. Ghassan Yousef Al Shehabi, Director of Media and Public Relations.
