“Legal Clinic” Students at University of Bahrain Start the Legal Skills Program

The Dean of the College of Law, University of Bahrain, Dr. Salah Mohammed Ahmed, stated, “About 35 students, expected to graduate in the current academic year 2022-2023, are currently taking part in the clinical program for legal skills in the College of Law. Dr. Ahmed explained that the clinical program for legal skills is organized by the Legal Clinic Center at the College of Law and was launched on October 4, 2022.

Dr. Ahmed pointed out that the Legal Skills Program for the College of Law students aims to provide a distinguished legal education that qualifies graduates to promote legal work through developing cognitive, legal and research skills in line with the society and labor market’s needs. The new program aims to qualify the College of Law’s students who are expected to graduate soon.

The program is implemented by the Legal Clinic and Human Rights Center every semester. Applications for enrollment in the program are received at the beginning of each semester and the program is implemented after the end of the first month of the semester to the end of the semester, at times that do not conflict with students’ lectures and exams.

The Dean of the College of Law indicated that the program is based on field visits to bodies related to legal work, including the Supreme Judicial Council, the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, the Ministry of Interior, the National Institution for Human Rights as well as law firms.

Dr. Ahmed added that the program provides workshops on topics related to practical and legal aspects such as legislative drafting, legal interpretation, drafting memoranda, judicial reports, legal advice, and practical applications of court pleadings. It contains legal translation, labor lawsuit, administrative lawsuits, the new execution law, alternative sentences, personal status, arbitration, and mediation. The new program also provides workshops on personal development in the world of innovation, communication skills, teamwork, organization, and planning for the working life, as well as introducing students to the challenges of the labor market.

Dr. Ahmed confirmed that the program qualifies students to obtain a detailed participation certificate, documenting their participation in the program and adding to their CV and competitiveness in the labor market.

Notably, the Legal Clinic and Human Rights Center was established at the College of Law, University of Bahrain in 2013 to contribute to achieving the vision and mission of the University of Bahrain in serving the Bahraini community.
