Focusing On Graduating Cadres Capable of Developing the Profession The UOB President Congratulates Nurses on Their International Day and Commemorates Their Role in Facing the Pandemic

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahka, congratulated the Bahraini nursing staff on the International Nursing Day, which falls on the twelfth of May of each year, expressing sincere praise and appreciation to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s nurses who constitute an effective human force in the kingdom’s health structure and who made a huge and visible effort in working as a front line of defense against the Corona pandemic, which contributed to the Kingdom of Bahrain’s recovery and moving steadily to achieve health for all.
Dr. Al-Mudhahka confirmed the work of the nursing staff is praiseworthy and appreciated by the wise leadership, as stated in the session of the Council of Ministers that was held on the eighth of May, as the esteemed council expressed its thanks to the nursing cadres from the children of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Also, she stated that the National University prioritizes graduating distinguished nursing cadres who can give and develop the profession, in line with the University’s vision, through which it aspires to reach leadership and attain a prestigious position at the regional and international levels.
This came during Dr. Al-Mudhahka’s patronage of the Fourth International Nursing Forum organized by the Nursing Department at the College of Health and Sports Sciences (CHSS), on Thursday (May 11, 2023), titled “Our Nurses… Our Future”.
In this context, Al-Mudhahka praised the development witnessed by academic degrees in the College, as well as academic qualifications that are compatible with quality standards and academic accreditation at the local and global levels, explaining that this development would not have been achieved without the concerted efforts of faculty members in the College and joint cooperation between UoB and its partners of hospitals and health institutions.
For her part, Dean of CHSS and Director of the Collaborating Center with the World Health Organization (WHO) for Nursing Development in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr. Lina Mohammed Khenji, confirmed that the College has made outstanding efforts in educating and training health forces in the nursing sector, and has sought to develop the nursing profession over the past years. And left a clear imprint on the local, regional and global levels, through WHO Collaborating Center, and social responsibility towards developing nursing cadres locally and regionally, and modernizing academic programs and health practices, according to the latest evidence and proof derived from scientific research.
Dr. Khenji said, “The College was able to provide the health sector with qualified nursing cadres in the fields of general nursing, and in the following specializations: midwifery and obstetrics, psychiatric nursing, community health nursing, and emergency nursing, in addition to a master’s degree in advanced adult health nursing.”.
Dr. Khenji explained that the International Nursing Council launches a slogan to celebrate the nursing staff every year, and this year’s celebration was under the slogan “Nurses Together: A Force for Global Health”, to emphasize the importance of the nursing profession.
The nursing forum aims to encourage nursing students to research and publish their scientific research, and to enable nurses in the Kingdom of Bahrain to present their studies on a scientific platform, which provides them with the opportunity to cooperate in promoting health and preventing diseases, through evidence and scientific studies.
Inaddition, the forum hosted speakers from inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain, including Professor Benjamin Breboneria, from the International Society for Nursing in the United States of America, who participated in a talk on “Nursing Practice Today: Aspects of Future Nursing Practice.”, the General Director of Nursing Services at Salmaniya Medical Complex – Governmental Hospitals, Fatima Khairallah Akbar, who spoke on “Nursing Challenges and Opportunities.”, Ms. Virginia Plummer from Australia who spoke on “The Future of Nursing.”, and Ms. Mirna Fawaz from Lebanon, who spoke on “Invest in Nursing Education.”. Additionally, a group of nursing students from the master’s and bachelor’s programs participated in the forum, presenting a range of various scientific research papers.
