The Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership at University of Bahrain Concludes an Intensive Training Workshops for its Academians

The Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership at the University of Bahrain concluded a series of intensive training workshops for academians. The workshops, held on 6 – 10 November 2022, included five training workshops presented by the Unit’s team and attended by more than 300 members of the academic staff at the University.
The Director of the Unit for Teaching Excellence and Leadership at the University of Bahrain, Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al-Jahrami, stressed that the workshops held by the UTEL seek to develop academic skills and practices, as well as the teaching, leadership and professional capabilities of the University’s faculty members, in a manner that would contribute to the development of university education, in addition to creating the culture of continuous professional development and the new academic practices to improve the faculty members’ performance, who lauded the quality of the workshops content which kept pace with the latest developments in higher education.
Dr. Al-Jahrami presented a workshop, an orientation for the new and part-time faculty members. She introduced them to the University’s regulations and systems, academic rights and duties, the latest methods, and strategies in the fields of preparation and planning, university teaching, assessment, creating the appropriate environment for learning, preparing plans for continuous professional development, and enhancing internal and external quality assurance processes. The program also included a workshop on “how can professional learning communicate (PLCS) AID HE Post Covid 19”
A workshop entitled “Why Play Works: Learning through gamification” was presented on the third day of the program by the lecturer in the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice Program (PCAP), Dr. Thuraya Juma, and the assistant professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Ijaz Rashid Rasool.
Assistant Professor in the Allied Health Sciences Department, Dr. Huda Jawad, and assistant Professor in the English Language and Literature Department, Dr. Halima Al-Aali, presented a workshop titled “Student Partnerships in Assessment”. On the last day, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Dr. Hayat Abdullah Youssef, presented a workshop entitled “Why to Constructively Align Your Educational Activities?”
It is worthy to note that the Unit is going to hold a series of workshops that aim to develop academic practices, manage the educational process, and refine leadership skills for the affiliates of the University of Bahrain and other local universities, during the third intensive week in February 2023.
