WHY SUBMIT AN INVENTION DISCLOURE FORM
The process of technology transfer and the inventor’s journey with BITTC starts by filling out our confidential Invention Disclosure Form (IDF), to notify us about your discovery. The form allows us to gather the essential information we need to start the evaluation process. Researchers, faculty, and students are required to submit the IDF before publishing or sharing those findings with others. Publishing or Disclosing your discovery or research findings may result in destroying IP rights and the loss of commercialization opportunities for UoB and the inventor.

The inventors journey with BITTC starts by filling out our confidential Invention Disclosure Form (IDF), to notify us about your discovery. The form allows us to gather the essential information we need to start the evaluation process.
To avoid losing IP rights, inventors should submit the IDF before publishing or disclosing their discovery or research findings (Publicly presenting your research or submitting a manuscript for publication, is also considered as public disclosure that destroys IP rights).

ASSESSMENTASSESSMENT
Based on the assessment of the IDF, the BITTC will determine whether it will file for protection on the invention.
The invention evaluation process at BITTC consists of two parts: Assessment of Patentability and Assessment of Marketability to determine if the invention has commercialization potential, and whether the appropriate commercialization strategy is to license the technology to an existing company or to form a start-up company.

PROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTSPROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
BITTC will determine if it will file for legal protection on the invention in the Kingdom of Bahrain or abroad. Such protection may take the form of a patent, copyright, industrial design, trademark, or trade secret.

MARKETINGMARKETING
To bring the invention to the market, the BITTC will conduct market analysis to identify candidate companies that have the resources and expertise to bring the invention to market.
BITTC markets the invention through non-confidential summaries of the technology and confidentiality agreements.

LICENSING THE TECHNOLOGYLICENSING THE TECHNOLOGY
BITTC negotiates licensing agreements to bring technology to the marketplace.
However, depending on the attractiveness of the invention, finding an appropriate licensee can take time.

FINANCIAL REVENUESFINANCIAL REVENUES
According to UoB’s IP Policy, if the invention is successfully licensed, cash royalties on such commercialization – after deducting legal expenses incurred by BITTC – is distributed between the BITTC, the inventor(s), and the College of the inventor.
