PROGRAMS
The center offers a program in French language minor. Students, in addition to their primary major in the BA, study the French language for 30 credit hours (10 courses). The center also offers elective French language courses for beginners to all students coming from various faculties of the University.
It includes 30 credits (10 credits) and is directed to students who have chosen a bachelor’s program based on a major and a minor in the following departments:
- Department of English Language and Literature.
- Department of Media, Tourism and Arts.
- Department of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies.
The best students are sent to attend an intensive French language course at the CAVILAM Institute in Vichy, central France, for four weeks, in cooperation with the French Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The student can choose one or two courses in the basics of the French language for beginners. The elective courses are offered to students of all faculties.

Course Title: French (l)
The emphasis is on developing students’ skills in communication in everyday situations. It gives students the basic elements of composing simple phrases and writing short essays.

Course Title: French (Il)
Continuation of elementary French 141. It is designed to improve the students’ communicative abilities in their domains to interact, express feelings, opinions… etc. The course develops the student’s grammatical and lexical background and gives them extra language elements of expression.

Course Title: Intermediate French (l)
The emphasis is placed on developing the students’ grammar to achieve the writing skills of communication in the contemporary French language. This course also focuses on some of the aspects of civilization and French daily life.

Course Title: Intermediate French (Il)
This course is designed to improve the students’ communicative skills through a deeper study of grammar. It is designed to develop their competence in order to give them extra tools of expression and writing skills.

Course Title: Advanced French (l)
This course aims to develop the performance of students in the advanced French language. It introduces the students to French cultural life through selected texts and it also focuses at the same time on some of the linguistic tools that are required, i.e. grammar, vocabulary, syntax…etc… (Prereq.: French 231).

Course Title: Advanced French (II)
The aim of this course is to study the French language through various media. Articles from newspapers and magazines are selected in order to provide the students with the essential vocabulary that they encounter in their own domains, i.e. press, hotels and tourism.

Course Title: Advanced French (Ill)
This course focuses on studying French language at a high level, concentrating on subjects such as press, hotels and tourism through the study of various subjects and readings. At the same time, it gives the students essential vocabulary and grammar.

Course Title: Specialized French (l)
The aim of this course is to develop the communicative skills of the students and to give them the ability to analyze articles and to comment on them. At the same time, it enriches the vocabulary they need for speaking and writing.

Course Title: Specialized French (Il)
Continuation of specialized French (1). It is designed to enhance the language of the students and to make sure that they master communication in many fields. the course focuses on a high level of grammar and it develops students’ oral and writing skills through various selected texts.

Course Title: Specialized French (Ill)
This course aims to develop the students’ skills in different styles in French writing through composing essays, reports, articles and summaries. It concentrates as well on French grammar rules.
