GE signs MoU with University of Bahrain to strengthen skills of young engineers and prepare them for high quality technical careers

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Professor Riyad Yousif Hamzah, The president of the University of Bahrain and Mr. Salim Mousallam, General Electric Company (GE) Regional General Manager of Kingdom of Bahrain and Kuwait region, on Thursday Oct 6th 2016, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.
This Memorandum sets out the key objectives of cooperation between the two parties with the goal to work jointly to strengthen the skills of young Bahraini engineers and prepare them for high quality technical careers in line with the requirements of the industry. needs of employers and industry within the Gulf region and wider.
The strategic MoU underlines the spirit of industry-academic collaboration to promote training and applied research among Bahraini students, graduates and young professionals, and embed the necessary core and technical skills that are needed to enroll in the workforce both now and the future. A series of planned activities will be rolled out as part of the long-term agreement, whereby GE and University of Bahrain will work to promote a vibrant R&D ecosystem in the Kingdom, while promoting innovation and talent development among the young Bahraini engineers.
Prof. Hamzah President of the University of Bahrain, said: “The MoU with GE underlines our strong commitment to develop the skills of our engineering students and prepare them for the real and challenging requirements of industry today. This aligns with the development goals of Bahrain’s economic vision, which places a strong emphasis on preparing our youth for future careers, especially in industries, which are integral to economic diversification and growth. This may be through developing highly skilled innovative and entrepreneurial graduates that create value for Bahrain and establishes a strong regional footprint. . This partnership also signifies our intent as the national university to work with global players such as GE to establish Bahrain as the hub for high quality talentâ€.
Through the MoU, GE is highlighting its role in supporting academia in Bahrain by incubating talent and supporting them through their academic years with hands-on training opportunities, soft skills development, and industry-related problem-solving training. The University will promote the training courses and the GE facilities in Bahrain among students.
GE has a strong presence in Bahrain, where it supports the Kingdom’s power and energy infrastructure through advanced solutions. GE has opened a Customer Application Centre (CAC) in the Kingdom that adds to its CACs in Brazil, Italy, USA, UAE, Russia, China and Singapore
