Prof. Hamzah: The Kingdom of Bahrain Has Achieved Remarkable Titles During the Pandemic

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Prof. Dr. Riyad Yousif Hamzah, congratulated the wise leadership, represented by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, and congratulating the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its loyal people on this happy national occasion. 

UoB’s National Day celebrations were held electronically on Tuesday (15 December 2020) and were launched by Prof. Hamzah with a welcoming speech, in which he affirmed the enthusiasm of UoB and its great interest in continuing to celebrate the National Day despite the continuation of the Corona pandemic (Covid-19), praising the community cohesion at all levels, stating that “The heroism and sacrifices shown by the first lines leaders and their families are noteworthy.” pointing to what has been achieved by maintaining the vital roles in all sectors that continued to work without any defect or interruption during the pandemic, referring to the leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain “which set the citizen and the resident as its objective, and made people a priority, their safety a goal, and their health a purpose 

Moreover, the President of the University pointed to the efforts of UoB and its response to official directives, by adopting everything that guarantees the safety of its members, including academics, administrators and students, pointing to the success of the E-Learning Center and the Information Technology Center, the cooperation and creativity of professors, and the great response from students to switch to e-learning in record time. Adding that “The pandemic has shown us the capabilities inherent within humans, as challenges refine us and bring out the best in us.” 

Prof. Hamzah added: “The approach adopted by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, in empowering young people and enhancing their role, as he is one of the lights showing us the way in UoB.” Referring to the academic programs and classroom activities and their role in preparing Bahraini youth at the highest levels to be able to compete, be confident in their abilities, and be able to present themselves strongly and steadily in local and international forums. Emphasizing how national celebrations strengthen the spirit of belonging and loyalty to the homeland, consolidate national constants, and empower the spirit of citizenship and its lofty creative meanings that call for progress and divine national construction. 

For her part, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Fatima Mohammad Al-Maliki, congratulated the wise leadership and the loyal people on the occasion of the Kingdom’s celebrations of the glorious National Day and the Accession Day, and she indicated that the slogan for the celebrations of UoB for this year will be (Vision 2030: Challenges, Opportunities, Achievement), which is derived from the noble royal directions, and the speech of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince, the Prime Minister, at his first speech after obtaining the supreme confidence of His Majesty King to become the Prime Minister. 

Moreover, Al-Maliki stressed that student creativity and the creativity of all UoB affiliates, academics and administrators, were not limited by the new conditions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, and continued on the cyberspace, with various interesting and innovative sessions, programs and competitions. 

The ceremonial program of UoB started at twelve in the afternoon and included various national competitions, including cultural competitions, the “Knights of the Glorious National Day” competition, and others for people with disabilities, whose questions were answered by the participants through the Kahoot app. 

Also, the program included comprehensive art competitions for a number of arts, including: A competition for the most beautiful painting under the title (Vision 2030: Challenges, Opportunities, Achievement), for three categories (children, amateurs and professionals), competitions for visual arts (Arabic calligraphy, traditional drawing, and digital drawing), musical competitions such as solo playing, and theatrical competitions through the representation of a theatrical scene, in addition to competition under the title (Celebrating From Home), which aimed to highlight the beauty of celebrating the National Day from home in light of the current conditions. 

Also, an art exhibition and various sessions were held, including: a National Day congratulations session, singing sessions, national film screenings, a poetry session delivered by student Nadia Mohammed, a national poem by student Ahmed Al-Ali and another by student Hussain Al-Aradi. A cultural performance “Al-Ardha” was also performed, and prizes were distributed to the participants in all competitions held on the electronic platform MS Teams.
