Proposed SPE Chapter will Enhance Student’s Knowledge in Oil & Gas Industry
The Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference (MEOS) was held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre from 18 to 21 March, 2019.
During the MEOS conference, a team from the UoB Department of Chemical Engineering discussed with the Bahrain Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), establishing an SPE Student Chapter at the university. The proposed Chapter will expand students’ knowledge and enhance their skills in the oil and gas industry.
Dr. Mohamed Ali Bin Shams and Dr. Husni Mohammed Al-Zubair from the Department of Chemical Engineering discussed the steps necessary to form an SPE Student Chapter with Mr. Ammar Shaaban, Chairperson of Bahrain Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Mr. Bader Al Baqishi from Tatweer Petroleum.
Dr. Mohamed Ali Bin Shams, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering, said that this would provide a unique opportunity to enhance students’ knowledge of the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources and related technologies.
This year’s conference theme was “Resilience through Talent and Technology Transformation.†Driven largely by technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, more than 400 speakers covered a wide range of subjects, including the best practices in the oil and gas industry, enhanced oil recovery, exploration geology, energy efficiency, innovation, and other related topics.
