Surpassing 24 Universities in MENA SPE-UoB Team Qualifies for The PetroBowl Championship Finals

The President of the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Jawaher bint Shaheen Al-Mudhahki, congratulated the student team from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)-UoB branch, for winning first place in the regional qualifiers for the PetroBowl tournament, among 24 universities in the Middle East and North Africa region, and therefore qualifying for the PetroBowl Championship finals, an international competition hosted annually by the SPE.
Dr. Al-Mudhahki confirmed that the National University and its colleges support student participation inside and outside the Kingdom of Bahrain and is keen on its students’ participation in various local, regional, and international competitions, and to develop students’ skills, and encourage them to acquire more skills and knowledge.
In addition, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, praised the advanced level the students showed in their participation and their superiority over student teams from the most notable universities in the Middle East and North Africa, noting that this qualification clearly shows the students of the of the College of Engineering at UoB’s readiness to compete, as it motivates them to give their best.
The team of students: Noor Khalil Dhaif, Ameer Hussain Nasser, Talal Mohammed Al-Khalqi, Ali Youssef Shukrallah and Anwar Mohammed Al-Saibai, qualified for the PetroBowl Championship finals, to be held in October 2022, Houston – Texas, in the United States.
As UoB’s team defeated its counterpart student team from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in the regional qualifiers that took place in the last week of July. The University Team went through five competitive rounds against the participating universities in the elimination category, to reach the tournament finals, in fast-paced tests covering technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry.
The University’s Team is preparing to face the winning teams in the regional competitions face to face, at SPE’s Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition (ATCE).
