Emphasizing the Project’s Contribution to Building Effective Strategic Partnerships… Dr. Qadir: The Technology Transfer Center Is Necessisary in Pursuing a knowledge Economy

The Vice President of the Academic Programs and Graduate Studies at the University of Bahrain (UoB), Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir, stressed the importance of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Center – which is concerned with transferring university research to the market – is growing in light of the pursuit of an economy based on knowledge and innovation, noting that innovation and technological development are the basis of the future’s sustainable economic growth, during the Senior Advocate in the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the US Department of Commerce, Dr. James Philby’s visit to the UOB on Wednesday (25 May 2022)
As UoB and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism had initiated the establishment of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Center, in cooperation with CLDP during the last year 2021, aiming to assist in transferring research and innovations from the academic sector to the private sector, as the Center issues licensing agreements and patents, and works to increase economic income, by increasing the number of start-ups, creating job opportunities, developing productivity, and increasing the effectiveness of budgets allocated for research and development.
Dr. Mohammed Reda Qadir confirmed UoB’s keenness to apply best practices used for patent registration, technology transfer through marketing, and licensing negotiations for commercial exploitation process, praising the Technology Transfer Center project, which contributes to building strategic partnerships between higher education institutions on one hand, and emerging institutions and innovative entrepreneurs on the other. In addition, the next steps to officially launch the Innovation and Technology Transfer Center next month have been discussed.
For his part, Dr. James Philby, Senior Advocate in CLDP, expressed his contentment with the Center’s accomplishments in its implementation plan so far, especially regarding training UoB cadres in the areas undertaken by the Center.
Moreover, Dr. Philby thanked the University officials for their warm reception and wished to expand the areas of cooperation between UoB and CLDP of the US Department of Commerce.
In addition to the Vice President for Academic Programs and Graduate Studies, the meeting was attended by: Assistant Professor at the College of Business Administration at UoB, Dr. Mayassa Al-Suwaidi, and Assistant Professor at the College of Law at the University, Dr. Sh. Muneera bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Department at Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Sheikha Abdullah Al-Fadhel.
