Students Of Interior Design and Environmental Architecture at UoB Design 300 Sustainable Projects

Students of the Interior Design and Environmental Architecture at the Department of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Bahrain (UoB) implemented 300 projects, and presented them within exams before the jury last week.
Where the students expressed their happiness at resuming the process of direct presentation, deliberation and discussion about their product face to face, with experts and engineers from UoB and abroad.
As for the past two years, these exams were held on MS Teams or Blackboard platforms due to the conditions imposed by the Corona virus pandemic, while this year they were held in the gymnasium on the University campus in Isa Town.
The coordinator of the Interior Design Program in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, Dr. Reem Abbas Sultan, indicated that presenting projects to experts and engineers is part of shaping future designers, training them to present their projects, to speak confidently about them before specialized committees, and listen to remarks and criticism, noting that presenting projects helps in peer education, and enriches the educational process.
Jury has been held for around 80 projects by second-year students, to create an interior design for a restaurant of a particular style chosen by the student, after studying the design, style and user elements. While about 90 third-year students developed a small hotel with a cultural and heritage aspect. Also, 70 different graduation projects were judged in the field of interior design, in the presence of academic arbitrators from Bahraini and Saudi universities.
For her part, the assistant professor in the Department of Architecture and Interior Design, coordinator of the Environmental Architecture Program, Dr. Wafaa Hassan Al-Madani, stated that the students of environmental architecture presented 30 proposals for planning and designing a comprehensive and sustainable neighborhood park in several locations for the second-year design course.
Dr. Al-Madani stated, “These sites were provided in cooperation with Diyar Al-Muharraq, and the engineers in charge of developing the projects. As the students developed their planning and design projects for two sites for a more sustainable environment and a healthy community, taking into account the needs of residents of different ages.”, and the jury expressed its appreciation and admiration for the various proposals and the creative concepts implemented by the students.
The past week witnessed in attendance examinations for about 722 student projects, 422 of which were projects of students in the Bachelor’s in Architecture, 242 projects of students in the Bachelor’s in Interior Design, and 58 projects of students in the Bachelor’s in Environmental Architecture.
The Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Sheikha Haifa bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, visited the exhibition and examination halls, and listened to some of the students’ presentations and discussions, praising the efforts made by the organizing committees as well as the students through their various creativity and solutions in the designs they presented.
