ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Student Services and Development seeks to provide the best services to its students to facilitate and facilitate their university life through three different divisions:

  • The Student Services Division is represented by the Transportation Unit, the Support Services Unit, and the Nutrition Unit.
  • The Student Training and Development Division consists of two units, the Student Training and Development Unit, and the Youth Delegations Unit.
  • The Disability Division, by providing services and possible facilities in coordination with the competent authorities inside and outside the University.

Objectives:

  • Providing the best support services for students to facilitate university life for them.
  • Providing programs and workshops to refine and develop students’ skills.
  • Providing the best possible services to help students with disabilities to facilitate and facilitate university life for them.

DIVISIONS

Student Services Division

The Division is keen to implement the administration’s directives regarding providing its best services to students and tries with every effort to facilitate their affairs in completing their transactions, through three units, namely, the Transportation Unit, the Support Services Unit, and the Nutrition Unit.

  • Providing student lockers:
    The Student Services Division seeks to provide lockers for keeping books and special items for students, for those who wish to benefit from this service when submitting an application for obtaining the locker for a symbolic amount.
  • Supervising student lounges:
    For the convenience of students, the university has sought to provide rest rooms for male and female students so that they are furnished and air-conditioned, and the division supervises them daily to ensure their cleanliness and follow up their needs.
  • Graduation Outfit:
    One of the division’s tasks is to coordinate with the approved sewing shops to tailor the graduation uniform. It is also to ensure that the uniform is worn in the correct manner before the graduates enter the graduation ceremony in order to ensure that the ceremony appears at a level worthy of the occasion.
  • Supervising mosques and chapels at the university:
    The daily supervision of the university’s mosques and chapels is carried out by the Division in the university buildings in Sakhir and Isa Town, in order to follow up the field supervision of these facilities, follow-up procedures for maintenance and cleaning work with the Buildings and Maintenance Department, and to ensure that students adhere to the regulations and laws for the sanctity of the mosque and worshipers.

Restaurants are available to meet the demands of the university’s students, faculty and staff. The diversity of meals provided and prices appropriate with the students’ financial capabilities are considered when contracting with companies.

The university has allocated suitable spaces for restaurants, including the Food Court, which is located in the Deanship of Student Affairs building, and the food court located between the College of Science and the College of Information Technology. The food courts contain many restaurants, are equipped with large numbers of tables and chairs, takes an aesthetic form, and exhibit the highest levels of hygiene. There are also other restaurants spread throughout the university.

The university pays attention to the quality of direct supervision of inspection tours by the nutritionist and is in constant contact with the Public Health Directorate. It also arranges several events and visits to food and beverage factories to educate students and raise their awareness.

Division of Training and Student Development

The Division plans and implements training programs and events for students, in order to develop their abilities and give them experiences that support everything they receive academically in their lectures to prepare them for practical life (after graduation). It includes two units:

The activities of this unit focus on the main themes, namely:

  • Peer education: The idea of this program is to organize educational seminars within classrooms, each of which includes a number of students who have some shortcomings in their academic achievement. It is taught by academically distinguished students who are prepared and enjoy the capabilities and abilities that are being developed and refined with the communication skills and teaching methods necessary to enable them to perform their role education successfully. One of the most important objectives of the program is to provide a quality of education provided by the students themselves to their colleagues in the specialization and to provide a different study atmosphere that focuses on the students’ educational demands primarily and understands their needs and the difficulties they face.
  • Leaders Program Series: It is a series of workshops in various administrative and leadership skills, with the aim of creating a conscious generation capable of contributing effectively to the nation’s renaissance. This series includes holding ten specialized workshops each academic year.
  • Computer courses: In light of the tremendous development that we are witnessing in the field of information technology, where knowledge of computer applications has become an integral part of the skills and capabilities that must be available to every university graduate who accepts the beginning of his scientific life.
  • Program series(How to prepare and write scientific research): It is a series of workshops dealing with the various stages of preparing and writing scientific research, starting from collecting information and sources and ending with writing a research report.

The University of Bahrain announced the formation of the first youth delegation at the beginning of the second semester of the year 2002/2003. their skills at all levels. The main tasks of the University of Bahrain Youth Delegation Program are:

  • Participate in training courses and prepare reports to advance and advance the movement of the youth delegation and develop the work style.
  • A field visit to the ministries, economic, industrial, scientific and cultural institutions in the country.
  • The members of the delegation got acquainted closely with the methods that brought the Kingdom of Bahrain to an advanced degree in the development experience and the method of work in it.
  • Conducting activities and competitions among members of the delegation to visit knowledge and expertise.
  • Participation in attending specialized lectures and writing related reports.

Giving the distinguished members of the delegation an opportunity to learn about the experiences of other universities through their field visit to these universities.

Disability Division

She is a division of the Student Services and Development Department at the Deanship of Student Affairs. This division embraces students with disabilities, at the beginning of each new academic year and from the first day, and through the induction program, students with disabilities accepted into the university are identified, as well as through communication with the deans of faculties. After identifying students with disabilities, they are introduced to the offices of the Division of People with Disabilities services provided by the division to them.

The Division fully believes in the importance of providing the appropriate climate and environment for students with disabilities through continuous care and continuous follow-up to them while they are on the university campus. For these students, the university administration has provided distinguished services for students with disabilities. These services are as follows:

  • Assistance in registering for courses.
  • Providing an equipped car designated for students with disabilities to transport students to and from the university.
  • Providing a small car to transport students with disabilities between the university buildings and facilities.
  • Finding student volunteers to assist students with disabilities while they are at the university and during exam periods.
  • Coordination with the College of Arts in using the Visual Braille laboratory for blind students.
  • Coordination with the Ministry of Education to provide sign language teachers.

The division consists of qualified staff, who play a major role in integrating students with disabilities into the university and society, and work to solve the problems and difficulties they face during their study at the university.

PROGRAMS

  • A series of workshops in various management and leadership skills, aimed to create a generation which is aware and able to participate effectively in the prosperity of our nation through ten specialized workshops conducted annually.

A series of workshops that provide students with the necessary skills on how to conduct and write research from data collection and literature review, and ending with the writing of the research report.

The most important aim of the program is to provide a learning experience by students themselves to their colleagues in the same academic specialization and a study environment that directly focuses on the students’ educational needs and understands their needs and the difficulties they face, and to create a unique students team work, in addition to prepare students who possess teaching and leadership skills.

The Training & Student Development Division sought to participate in the development of students’ IT skills by organizing many specialized courses in computer science and skills, as the acquirement of PC applications become an important part of the skills that every university students must have.

A distinguished selection of 15 UOB students chosen according to a certain criterion, in line with the ongoing efforts to prepare students and develop their skills and abilities on every level.
